I’m the second child of four of us and my parents struggled hard to give us the best education. They sent me to a boarding school at the age of six, where I completed my secondary school. My parents encouraged my sports activities as they were fond of sports. I did excel in the field of hockey and football at the National level and brought fame to my family, school, college and of course my state. Later on I married and joined my husband in Bahrain where I lived for six years and there too I participated in sports activities at the Goan Club. We later moved to Dubai and I continued playing Hockey for the Goan Cultural club at the Al Nasr Leisureland. After a few years I met Placita and we became good friends. She gave me information on paper quilling classes and it was here that I saw the quilts of my teacher who had done amazing work on cloth that inspired me and made me force her to hold a few classes on the basics of quilting. She was very reluctant at first but seeing my interest she opted to take classes for only a week and I did tell her that I need to do the same Spiders Web quilt she had made. I did not waste any time and went the same evening and purchased a machine not having any knowledge to thread the needle, wind the bobbin, but after all this managed to finish the quilt at her dead line. I was indeed happy to see the quilt completed with all the hard work I had put but not realising the mistakes all over my quilt. I showed this Quilt to Placita and she introduced me to the Dubai Guild. I Visited the Guild as a Guest for one year i.e. 2005-2006 and in between the meetings I got introduced to Wilma and requested her for some more classes as I was not aware of the accuracy in cutting and so she readily agreed to host the classes and taught me different techniques. I joined the Dubai Quilters Guild as a member in the 2006 and am really happy meeting different people from all over the world, and where I got a chance to exchange quilting ideas. I did attend a few classes held by overseas teachers who inspired me a lot. Quilting books does help me a lot and I thank my friends who offered me a few. I do subscribe some magazines which I receive bimonthly. During the summer vacation, this year I took all my quilts home and show them to my parents, sisters and my brother who were amazed to see my quilting. I gave all my family members a Quilt each. I would like to thank Classic Quilts for giving me the Honour and opportunity to be “The Quilter of the Month”. It makes me feel happy that they appreciate work of each Quilter. I wouldd like to thank Cynthia for teaching me the art of fabric dyeing and who readily offered help when I had difficulty. Thanks also to Mala who gave me confidence and supported me on my work. Last
but not the least I would like to thank my husband Gerard who gave
me immense support right from the word “Go”, not to forget
my two children who always said “Mama you do wonderful work
with great effort and you will win a prize one day”. The words
of my children came true when my Quilt “Flowers of Happiness”
won the Third Place in the Traditional Category at the Dubai Guild’s
Quilt show which was held at Nad Al Sheba in May 2007.
