Mala Ramakrishnan

Mala Ramakrishnan came to Muscat, Sultanate of Oman in 1986 after her marriage to Shanker. They moved to Abu Dhabi in 1995 when Mala took to Quilting as a Hobby. In November 2004 she bought a Gammill Long Arm Quilting machine and had the initiation to long arm machine quilting from Beryl Cadman a leading quilter based in Ireland. In June 2005, Mala opened Classic Quilts & Quilting in Dubai with an object of making and selling Quilts, providing Quilting services and promoting Quilting in the UAE and neighboring countries. In October 2005 she traveled to US and took further training in machine quilting from Linda Taylor (world renowned long-arm machine quilter). She learnt art of Trapunto quilting. She went on to attend the International Quilt Show at Houston and took some lessons there too. Mala is a member of International Quilt Association, Dubai Quilters’ Guild and Abu Dhabi Quilting Guild.

Shanker Ramakrishnan

Shanker, a Chartered Accountant, has held senior positions with Multinational companies in the Middle East since 1979. He is currently a Commercial Advisor to a group of companies in Dubai and supports Mala in her quilting venture by way of assistance in procurement, administration and accounting.
